Suunnistuksen EM-kilpailut alkavat huomenna torstaina 13.5.2021.

Florian Howaldin talviharjoittelu on sujunut hyvin: ”My wintertraining has been going well. Despite all the uncertainties around Covid-19 I was sure that IOF & organizers will work hard the at least the international races are held if the situation allows. So I was motivated about the training. Also your Swiss Team coaches did a good job to organize o-trainings from what was possible with the restrictions. What I missed most during wintertraining was joining the TP Punakone guys for the Lappland camp; so I am looking forward to meeting them hopefully later this year. Now I am in good shape and feel ready both for sprinting and then pretty soon afterwards also for Czech forest orienteering.”

Ranskalaissuunnistajamme Maelle Beauvir on nauttinut ehjästä harjoitustalvesta ja kertoo talven leireistään: ”My winter training was interesting this year, I haven’t had any injuries, it’s the first year since 5 years! Because of covid I could go only once in Czech Republic but I had trainings with “Pole France Loire” in Lyon in the week-end and in Fontainebleau, next to Paris. These are very nice terrains, quite similar to CZE ones because there are lots of rocks. During the week I’m training in Grenoble where i work. This year I started working with school and trainings at the same time so it’s quite difficult to find balance between these 3 activities. Two weeks ago, I was very tired and an injury arrived during a sprint training. My body said be careful with everything. Now the goal is to be ready for EOC in Switzerland, I’m happy to be part of it. I’m selected for KO sprint and individual sprint. My shape will not be at its best but I had some good sprint trainings during the winter with MOC and French training camps. So i cross my fingers and I’m really looking forward to compete after a long time!!”

Itävaltalainen Anja Arbter kertoo myös lyhyesti kuulumisistaan: ”With the exception of a short period I could train as I wished with a lot of running and little crosscountry skiing and ski-mountaineering. I mostly enjoyed my longruns in the mountains and the orienteering camp before eastern.”

Sveitsiläinen Pascal Buchs on joutunut kärsimään vaivoista talven aikana, mutta tulee vahvempana takaisin: ”My winter training did not go as well as I was hoping. After some shin splints problem, I got a stress reaction in my shin bone in the end of January. Unfortunately, the injury lasted longer than expected. Finally, I did everything I could to be able to compete in the selection races for the European championships which take place at home in Neuchâtel. But with only some days of running this season, I wasn’t able to reach a selection. It’s of course a big disappointment but I will be back stronger!”

I had a difficult start in the winter training as a sinusistis between November and December allowed me to really start training just before Christmas. Afterwards I had two quite good monts of trainings having also the possibility to do some technical trainings in the south in Barbate. After having done a good base of work, I wanted to start to increase the speed from March, but from the end of February I was then stopped, first because of having the coronavirus, and then with an injury straight out of the isolation so that I couldn’t really train for the whole month. This led to the cancellation of the Spring season for me, missing the EOC sprint in Switzerland and having to restart with alternative training in April to be hopefully back in summer with a better shape.”
