Pyrinnön sprinttikolmikko onnistui loistavasti Sveitsin EM-kilpailujen sprinttimatkalla, joka juostiin sunnuntaina 6.5. 2018 Sveitsin Mendrisiossa. Sveitsin maajoukkueessa juokseva Simona Aebersold ylsi juniori-iästään huolimatta upeasti naisten sarjan viidenneksi. Niinikään Sveitsin maajoukkueessa juokseva Florian Howald suunnisti taitavasti miesten sarjan kuudenneksi. Suomen maajoukkueen Aleksi Niemi ylsi kovassa kilpailussa hienosti sijalle 20. Tässä urheilijoidemme kommentit kilpailusta, joka juostiin lämpimissä olosuhteissa.
Simona:
It was a very nice feeling at the beginning of the race and after the map change it got really really really tough for me. It might be that I started a bit overmotivated and too fast but at that moment I didn’t feel like it. But especially the heat was very hard for me to deal with in the end. Technically it went really well and I think I never chose a route completely wrong. But at the moment I am just very happy about the whole day and my performance in the final. I have never thought about such a good result before! And it was such a nice atmosphere from start to finish with all the spectators cheering!!
Florian:
It was a great start into the home EOC for me yesterday. After Quali I knew shape is good & sprint technique works well. The final was as expected really hectic, lot of controls, some routechoices so really intresting to run. As usual I started pretty fast. Some hesitation at map change plus one mistake on the route before arena passage. Towards the end legs were really burning but home crowd cheered a lot & happy to gain this diploma place!

Se oli tänään mun maksimi suoritus. Otin kaikki irti koneesta mitä sain ja teknisesti tein todella puhtaan suorituksen. Juoksu tuntui koko matkan todella huonolle ja laiskalle. Luulen, että syynä oli mulle vuoden ensimmäinen todellinen hellepäivä. Olen kuitenkin tyytyväinen, että sain onnistuneen suorituksen ja jos kelit jatkuvat näin kuumina, niin eiköhän kroppa totu melko nopeasti jo ennen keskimatkaa.
