COMPETITION INSTRUCTIONS

 

The competition will be held according to the SSL rules of the sport and the competition rules of the organisers.The final rules will be available at the start of the competition. The final competition rules are available at the competition centre.  

 

Summary

  • Competition venue: Kivimäentie 148, Orivesi
  • Directions: from Orivedentie (highway 58, road between Orivesi and Kangasala) and from Siitamanyhdistie. The direction signs will be in place from 8.6.2024 at 10:00 am.
  • Start times on Saturday from 12 noon and Sunday from 10 am, times available on the competition website.
  • Distance to the start on Saturday L1: 1,3 km, L2: 0,7 km  
  • Distance to the start on Sunday L1: 1,3 km, L2: 1,4 km
  • Race numbers near the information desk, emit backup patches at the starting points.

Arrival and parking

Competition centre: Kivimäentie 148, Orivesi

By car: Directions from Orivedentie (highway 58, road between Orivesi and Kangasala) and Siitamanyhdystie. Guidance from both north and south.  

Drive to the parking area according to the directions next to the competition centre (Kivimäentie 201). Follow traffic guidance and watch out for orienteers.

Due to limited parking space, we encourage you to arrive in carpools and with as full cars as possible!

 

Competition centre services

Cafeteria, toilet. The cafeteria offers sandwiches, pastries, coffee and sausages. No separate restaurant.  

No washing facilities, and changing is done in terrain conditions.  

The nearby Säynäniemi campsite (Säynäniementie 100) offers orienteers the opportunity to use the sauna for 5 euros. A sauna token can be purchased at the campsite counter on presentation of the race entry (Irma, Eventor). On both days, the sauna shift for women is from 14:00 to 15:30, for men from 15:30 to 17:30. In addition, the campsite offers a discount on the restaurant’s list prices by showing the registration

There is also Suunnistajan kauppa in the competition centre.

Moderately warm weather is forecast for the weekend. Please remember to stock up on drinks before and after your run.

Map and terrain

Map 05/2024 (completely new orienteering map, mapped by Topias Helminen and Eemil Koskinen). Scale 1:10000 for H/D16-45 series, other 1:7500. Sunday’s WRE series 1:15000. Map size A3, A4 or A5 depending on series and day. The maps are in a plastic cover.

Control descriptions are available both loose (with their own mounting hardware). and on the maps.

Competitors may keep their own map after their performance. In accordance with the rules of the sport and in the spirit of fair play, competitors are not allowed to show the race map and course to competitors who have not yet started and coaches/guardians are not allowed to pass on information to competitors who have not yet started.

Prohibited areas are marked on the race map. Some of the edges of the forbidden areas are marked on the course with a ribbon. There are also forbidden areas in the terrain which are not marked on the map due to their small size. These areas are marked on the terrain with a ribbon.

NOTE! In men’s WRE class a map flip is used. Map flip is marked in the control description as follows:

Punching system

Emit punching will be used for the race. For competitors whose Emit number was not indicated in their registration via Irma or Eventor, the organisers have reserved a rental Emit which can be claimed at the information desk (price 3e/day/each). Any changes to the Emit number must be made at the info desk before departure, change fee 3e/each.

Race numbers

Number patches available near the info. Bring your own safety pins! Athletes who run in the same series on both days wear the same number and number patch throughout the weekend.

If an athlete runs in different series on different days (e.g. Saturday H21 and Sunday WRE), the athlete’s number will change and the athlete must pick up a new race number patch from info on Sunday. 

If necessary, you can get a new one from info to replace a lost or broken number patch. 

Athletes whose number remains unchanged and who have their number patch ready can head directly from the parking lot to the start on Sunday if they wish to do so. 

GPS-tracking

Gps-tracking is used in both days for H21A and D21A (Saturday) and M21E and W21E (Sunday). Gps-units will be handed out in competition center next to INFO-point. Please take your own vest, also rent vests available. List of the tracked runners will be on websites and competition center.

NOTE! In M21E1 class a diamond forking is used. Competitors will take different control descriptions and map with odd (M21E-A) and even (M21E-B) start numbers will take different maps at the start. The forking is marked only for second map: M21E (2A) or M21E (2B).

Starts

Saturday’s middle distance race

Start 1 is 1,3 km from competition centre and blue marking leads to start

Start 2 is 0,7 km from competition centre and yellow marking leads to start

 

Sunday’s long distance race

Start 1 is 1,3 km from competition centre and blue marking leads to start

Start 2 is 1,4 km from competition centre and yellow marking leads to start

Competitors must follow the road to the start and must not depart from it. This rule also applies to guardians. There is marked route from the competition centre to the starts.

Please check carefully the starting times on the different days and choose the right direction from the competition centre!

Start 1  

Classes: H/D16 -> and on Sunday WRE

Departure waiting area: Emit backup patches available.  

4 minutes before the start: competitors will be called by name to the start stall. Loose control descriptions available.

3 minutes before the start: Emit reset.

2 minutes before start: race map available.

1 minute before the start: Competitors wait for the last minute at the map bucket and can take the map at the start. Please make sure that you take the map from the bucket of your series.

The distance from the start to the K-point on Saturday and Sunday is 30 metres.

There is also a fitness trail from start 1, for which separate instructions apply on the race website.


Start 2

Classes: H/D10-14, RR, TR

Start waiting area: Emit backup patches available. Distribution of loose control description.  

4 min before start: Competitors are called by name to the start stall. RR, H/D10 series have the course available for viewing and all other children’s series have the race map with K-points available for viewing.  

3 min before the start: reset of the Emit.

2 min before the start: competitors in RR and H/D10 will receive a map and instructions. For other children’s series, the map with the K-point will be available for inspection.  

1 min before the start: competitors in the H/D12-14 categories will receive their map. Please make sure you take the map from the bucket of your own series.

The distance from the start to the K-point is 0 metres on Saturday and Sunday.

The grid route is marked with a yellow continuous plastic strip along the entire route. On the map, tracks are numbered 1, 2, etc., and the stamp codes on the tracks are RR1, RR2, etc. The line of the RR is marked on the map with an orange line.

RR tracks do not use control descriptions. A competitor in the RR series will not be disqualified for a missing or incorrect stamp, but for each missing/incorrect stamp 10 minutes will be added to the finishing time.

Finish

There will be a marked route from the last control to the finish. Punch at the finish line in and proceed to unload your emit card. Anyone who quits their performance must also check in at the finish.

 

Prize giving

The race will be run as a joint competition, with the joint time deciding the ranking.

The top three finishers will be awarded prizes.

Saturday’s race is also Häme Middle Distance, the top three will be awarded medals on Saturday.

The top three finishers in Sunday’s WRE series will be rewarded.

Prize giving according to the speakers instructions.

 

Drinking places

On Sunday, the long distance race will have refreshment points which are marked on the race map and as well as drinking controls marked in control descriptions. The drink will be water.

First aid

There will be a first aid station at the race centre. The staff at the drinking places and starting points can contact first aid if necessary.

 

Instructions for drop-outs:  

All competitors, including drop-outs, should attend to emit checkout as soon as possible after their performance. In this way, the organisers do not have to go to the course to look for competitors who are no longer there.
