Competition center

Competition center is located at the Environmental art work Up and under (street address Sasintie 555, Hämeenkyrö).

Sunday 10th June 2018 at 10 a.m.

On Saturday and Sunday there will be a one-of-the-kind competition in which orienteers and mountain bike orienteers compete simultaneously in different terrains. The finish line and finish is the same for all competitors with marked lanes for the different sports.

Distances

9th June: sprint (estimated best time in H/D21: 25–30 min)

10th June: long distance (estimated best time in H21: 1 hour 30 min; D21: 1 hour 15 min)

Courses will be planned according to the statutory guidelines for best estimated times

H/D21, WRE: 32.35 € per competition

H/D15-H/D75: 29.35 € per competition

Entries

Entry are due the latest on 31st May 2018 before 23.59 local time.

Entries should preferably be entered by the IRMA registration service published by the Finnish Orienteering Association. IRMA instructions.

Competitors from outside of Finland entering for the WRE H/D21 classes should entered by IOF Eventor (eventor.orienteering.org; for schedule, see above)

WRE participants should include their IOF-ID in their registration (see: orienteering.org/all-wre-participants-need-an-iof-id/)

Registrations should include competitor information including individual EmiTag number. For anyone who does not list an Emit number, the organizers will reserve a rental Emit that will be available from the info desk of the competition for 10 € per day (payed in cash). The organizer will charge an extra 5 € fee for any changes made after the final registration date.

Late entries are not allowed.

MTBO-competitors are not allowed to take part in Grano Games competition or the open class in Grano Games on Saturday.

Paying the entries

Entry fees must be payed simultaneously with the Irma registration.

When registering via post or e-mail, the fee must be payed at the same time to the organizer’s bank account using the reference number of the competitor’s orienteering club:

Guidance

Guidance is from route 3 (Tampere-Vaasa) at the Pinsiö crossing (Vaasantie 900, Ylöjärvi)

Road signs will be posted on 9th June from 9.00 a.m on. Passage to competition center is allowed only via this guidance point.

Parking

Parking is located 300-500 m from competition center.

Starting times

First starting time in the sprint competition on Sat 9th June will be at 12.00. Distance to start will be approx. 2.5 km.

First starting time in the long distance competition on Sun 10th June will be at 10.00 a.m. Distance to start will be approx. 3.5 km.

Order of starting times is determined according to the guidelines for Finnish Championship competitions by the Finnish Orienteering Association (see in finnish: www.suunnistusliitto.fi/system/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/SM_ohjeet_2018_ps.pdf)

Starting times and competition instructions will be published online at  tampereenpyrinto.fi/suunnistus/kilpailut/  on 7th June 2018 the latest.

Scale in the sprint competition 1:7500, 29.5 cm x 29.5 cm with one exchange of maps

Terrain

The terrain is mostly a network of tracks and trails with a good rideability. In the sprint competition the ability to combine individual orienteering techniques with a speedy execution will be crucial. On Saturday fluent progression will be at the heart of the performance. In the long distance competition the forms of the terrain will determine the best routes and the ascents and descents will challenge the physical condition of the competitors. Good route choises will be essential.

Riding off track is allowed.

Punching system

The EmiTag punching system is used in the competition. Registrations should include competitor information including individual EmiTag number. For anyone who does not list an Emit number, the organizers will reserve a rental EmiTag that will be available from the info-desk of the competition for 8 € (payed in cash). The organizer will charge an extra 5 € fee for any changes made after the final registration date. If a rented EmiTag is lost, a 90 € fee will be charged.

GPS tracking

Selected athletes in classes D21, H21, D20, and H20 will use GPS tracking device. List of athletes with GPS device will be published during the week prior to the competition. Wearing GPS device is compulsory.

Open class

The open class, i.e. the fitness courses for MTBO, will be available on Saturday and Sunday after the Finnish Championship departures.

Detailed instructions will be published closer to the event on the competition website. The open class is available without a race licence and registration is allowed at the event. The open class is allowed also for Grano Games competitors.

Do you own a mountain bike? Are you fairly familiar with orienteering? Try mountain bike orienteering and speedy biking from control to control. You will be competing with the Finnish finest!

Competition center services

There is no inside area at the competition center. The restaurant (soup and coffee) will be in a tent. Shower, first aid and childcare will be available.

The competition area is ground water area. Because of this the washing of bikes is not allowed in the competition center. Bikes can be washed at the gas station in Ylöjärvi (address: Vanha Vaasantie 1, FI-33470 Ylöjärvi, Finland).
